Shropshire County Council determines planning applications for minerals and waste development and for proposals by the County Council's own services (education, highways, social services etc).

All other planning applications in Shropshire are determined by one of the county's five Borough / District councils whose website addresses are listed in the 'useful websites' section on this page. Related services / further information
The County Council provides a range of other services which have significant relevance to our planning work. In particular, the Sustainability group provides a comprehensive evidence base which assists us in preparing planning policies and making planning decisions. Shropshire County Council also controls most forms of highway development in the county, and produces a Local Transport Plan. Follow the link to Highways Development Control and Shropshire Local Transport Plan to navigate to these pages on the County Council's website.

Local Government Change
As from 1 April 2009 Shropshire County Council and Shropshire's Borough / District Councils will be replaced by a single Unitary Authority with responsibility for all planning applications in Shropshire, including minerals and waste development. Work is currently progressing on the web site of the new authority which will incorporate a comprehensive online planning service.
