What are 'Saved' Planning Policies?
From 1 April 2009 Shropshire's former county, district and borough councils will be merged to form Shropshire Council. This will mean that a single Local Development Framework (LDF) will be prepared covering the whole of Shropshire.
Shropshire Council has begun work preparing a new county wide LDF with a Core Strategy due to be completed in 2011 and a Site Allocations and Development Management DPD to follow in 2012. However, before these documents are adopted it is necessary to continue to 'save' policies from each of the former Local Planning Authority areas.
These 'saved policies' will continue to form part of the Development Plan within their relevant former Local Planning Authority boundary, and will therefore continue to have an input to decisions on planning applications within these areas.
'Saved' Shropshire County Council Planning Policies
Shropshire County Council had a separate planning function from the district and borough councils in that it dealt with planning policies for mineral and waste development, and up until 2004 prepared a county wide Structure Plan. Therefore there are three sets of 'saved' planning policies from the former County Council, which are:
- Waste Local Plan 2002 - 2014
- Joint Minerals Local Plan 1996 - 2006 (prepared jointly with Telford & Wrekin Council)
- Joint Structure Plan 1996 - 2011(prepared jointly with Telford & Wrekin Council)
Follow the relevant attachments on this page to access the Waste Local Plan, Joint Mineral Local Plan, and Joint Structure Plan.
In 2007, the former County Council applied to the Government Office for the West Midlands (GOWM) requesting to continue to 'save' a number of policies in all three plans beyond their expiry date of September 2007. The schedule of policies which have continued to be 'saved' from each Plan are included as attachments on this page.
Policies which do not appear on the schedule of 'saved' policies have not been 'saved' and no longer form part of the Development Plan for the county. Policies which have been 'saved' will continue to be part of the Development Plan for Shropshire, and where appropriate will continue to inform decisions on planning applications.
Relevant Planning Documents prepared by the former Shropshire County Council
Along with the 'saved' Local Plan policies there are also a series of adopted plans and strategies still relevant to each former Local Planning Authority area. These include Development Briefs for specific sites and Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs). Where appropriate these documents will also continue to contribute to decisions on planning applications.
Plans and strategies still relevant to the former Shropshire County Council can be accessed via the relevant attachments on this page.
