What are 'Saved' Planning Policies?
From April 1 Shropshire's former county, district and borough councils will be merged to form Shropshire Council. This will mean that a single Local Development Framework (LDF) will be prepared covering the whole of Shropshire.
Shropshire Council has begun work preparing a new county wide LDF with a Core Strategy due to be completed in 2011 and a Site Allocations and Development Management DPD to follow in 2012. However, before these documents are adopted it is necessary to continue to 'save' policies from each of Shropshire's former Local Planning Authority areas.
These 'saved policies' will continue to form part of the Development Plan within their relevant former Local Planning Authority boundary, and will therefore continue to have an input to decisions on planning applications within these areas.

Policies in the Bridgnorth Local Plan were automatically 'saved' until July 2009. Earlier this year Bridgnorth District Council applied to the Government Office for the West Midlands (GOWM) to continue to 'save' a number of policies in the Local Plan after July.
Shropshire Council has now received the schedule of Local Plan policies which will continue to be 'saved' beyond 17 July 2009. Policies which are not on this schedule of 'saved' policies will no longer form part of the development plan for the former Bridgnorth District Council area after 17 July 2009. Relevant Planning Documents for the former Bridgnorth area
Along with these 'saved' policies there are also a series of adopted plans and strategies still relevant to each former Local Planning Authority area. These include Development Briefs for specific sites and Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs). Where appropriate these documents will also continue to contribute to decisions on planning applications.
