The preparation of Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) is an important feature of the new planning system. SPDs provide the opportunity for planning authorities to expand upon and give further guidance on policies contained in either their 'old' style local plans or 'new' style Development Plan Documents. When SPDs are adopted they become part of the Local Development Framework.
The Managing Waste in New Developments SPD provides additional guidance on the issue of waste management in the design, construction and operation of all new developments in Shropshire. In doing so, the SPD expands upon existing policy in Shropshire's adopted Waste Local Plan, which forms part of the development plan for the county.
The County Council adopted the final version of the Managing Waste in New Developments SPD on 13 December 2006. This followed a consultation process in May 2006 on a draft version of the document. Responses to this consultation have been fed into the development of the final version of the SPD.
