What planning applications are dealt with by the county council?

The planning development control team deals with planning applications for minerals and waste development and applications related to county council services such as education.

The team also monitors existing quarries and waste management sites and advises on future planning policy for minerals and waste.

What planning applications do local district and borough councils process?

Shropshire's five district and borough councils deal with all other planning applications within their respective areas, including residential, commercial and industrial development. For example, if you wanted to build an extension to your home, you would contact your local district or borough council. Local Government Change

As from 1 April 2009 Shropshire County Council and Shropshire's Borough / District Councils will be replaced by a single Unitary Authority with responsibility for all planning applications in Shropshire, including minerals and waste development. Work is currently progressing on the web site of the new authority which will incorporate a comprehensive online planning service.
