The purpose of the planning system
The planning system is to ensure that the right development is provided, in the right place and at the right time.
What development can take place - and where - is governed by guidance, strategies and plans drawn up by local and central government.
At present. planning policy at the local level is set out in the local plan documents adopted by the five district and borough councils which combined to form Shropshire Council.
These will shortly be superseded by a new planning policy document known as a Local Development Framework which is currently being prepared by the planning policy section.
Click the link at the end of this page to find out more about the Local Development Framework.
