What are 'Saved' Planning Policies?
From 1 April 2009 Shropshire's former county, district and borough councils will be merged to form Shropshire Council. This will mean that a single Local Development Framework (LDF) will be prepared covering the whole of Shropshire.
Shropshire Council has begun work preparing a new county wide LDF with a Core Strategy due to be completed in 2011 and a Site Allocations and Development Management DPD to follow in 2012. However, before these documents are adopted it is necessary to continue to 'save' policies from each of the former Local Planning Authority areas.
These 'saved policies' will continue to form part of the Development Plan within their relevant former Local Planning Authority boundary, and will therefore continue to have an input to decisions on planning applications within these areas.

In 2008 South Shropshire District Council applied to the Government Office for the West Midlands to 'save' a number of policies in this plan beyond their initial lifetime of three years. The schedule of successfully 'saved' policies is also attached to this page.
These policies will continue to form part of the Development Plan for the former South Shropshire District area before they are replaced by the Shropshire Council LDF.
