The Type and Affordability of Housing Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) was formally adopted by Shropshire Council on 16 March 2011.
The SPD aims to ensure the provision of more good-quality, affordable housing in Shropshire in the period to 2026, to meet growing demand from local people.
The SPD is relevant to all types of residential development. It helps to deliver the Core Strategy objective of providing a mix of good quality, sustainable housing development of the right size, type, tenure and affordability to meet the housing needs and aspirations of all sections of the community.

All new market housing developments are required by the Shropshire Core Strategy to make a contribution towards the provision of affordable housing. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) leaflet available to download on this page.
The prevailing target rate for affordable housing contributions for the period 1 April 2011 to 31 March 2012 is 13%, as stated in the LDF Annual Monitoring Report (December 2010).

Model section 106 agreements are also available to download on this page. The median gross household income for Shropshire is currently £30,000 (latest Income X figures, 2010). Therefore affordable housing for sale on mixed sites is valued at £90,000 for a 70-80sqm property; £105,000 for a 80-90sqm property and £112,500 for a 90-100sqm property in accordance with Appendix G of the SPD.
