Planning policy

There is now a single Planning Policy service for Shropshire. This service is responsible for the preparation of the Shropshire wide Local Development Framework (LDF), and will contribute towards the development of wider policy areas such as housing, the economy, transport and the environment.

Site Allocations and Management of Development DPD

Shropshire Council is consulting on the Issues and Options stage of the Site Allocations and Management of Development DPD (SAMDev) between 2 April and 25 June. This consultation is seeking responses to a series of questions, including views on potential sites for development in settlements in Shropshire. What is the Local Development Framework (LDF)?

The Local Development Framework, or LDF, is effectively a collection of various planning policy documents which consider a wide range of important planning issues such as housing, employment, retail, the environment, and transport. The LDF will play a crucial role in prioritising and shaping development in Shropshire over the next 20 years.

The LDF is made up of several planning documents, known as Local Development Documents (LDDs). When adopted, the policies and guidance contained in these LDDs will play an important role in the assessment of individual planning applications within Shropshire.

Links to Other Council Services

The Planning Policy service will be working closely with other sections of the Council in developing its policies and priorities. These services include Development Management, Transport Policy, Economic Regeneration, Environment and Housing. Close links will also be maintained with the Shropshire Partnership, particularly as they begin to draft the revised Sustainable Community Strategy for Shropshire. This coordination has already been established at two Standing Conference events held in July 2008 and February 2009. These events were used to highlight progress towards the Core Strategy, providing Shropshire Partnership members the chance to have their say. Feedback from both events are included as attachments on this page. The feedback is now being used to feed into future stages of both Core Strategy and Sustainable Community Strategy preparation.
