What is planning policy
Planning policy at the county council has several important roles to play:

  • producing policies which planning applications for waste and mineral development will be tested against
  • enabling a sustainable supply of potential waste management and mineral quarry sites in Shropshire
  • contributing to the development of planning policies at the regional level
  • ensuring conformity between local and regional planning policies

Shropshire County Council's Local Development Framework
The County Council has the responsibility of being the Mineral and Waste Planning Authority for Shropshire. This means that the council will need to develop several key planning documents on mineral and waste issues over the next few years. The collective name for these planning documents is the Local Development Framework (LDF). To find out more about current work on the Local Development Framework follow the relevant link on this page.

The County Council has prepared and adopted a Managing Waste in New Development Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). This document seeks to give additional guidance to developers about the consideration of waste issues in the construction and operation of new buildings. Follow the link to the Local Development Framework page to get more information about these and other planning documents.

The planning policy web pages also contain information relating to changes in the planning system, the monitoring of the council's planning policies, information on the Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) and Strategic Environmental Assessment, and details of the council's regional planning role.
