School travel and transport

Transport is provided for pupils to the nearest or catchment school subject to the distance criteria.

Transport is granted where:

  • the home is over two miles from the nearest or catchment primary school
  • the home is over three miles from the nearest or catchment secondary school
  • the distance is measured ‘gate to gate’ over the nearest available pedestrian route

Under these distances, transport arrangements and costs are the legal responsibility of the parents/carers.

Where a pupil has a medical problem transport can be considered to the nearest or catchment school where the home is less than the required distance.

Where a pupil has a statement of Special Education Needs, transport is dealt with when the school place is arranged.

Parents/Carers who want advice or guidance on any aspect of school transport should contact the Pupil Transport Entitlement Team on 01743 254372. Alternatively, visit the Education Transport pages by following the link to their pages about applying for transport assistance.
