Shropshire Registration and Celebratory Services

Fees from 1 April 2008 to 31 March 2009

(1) Copy certificates

Applied for at least one month after registration
Short birth certificate: £5.50
Standard birth certificate: £7.00
Death certificate: £7.00
Marriage certificate: £7.00

Applied for at any time after registration
Extract from the civil partnership register: £7.00
Standard certificate from civil partnership register: £7.00

Certificate applications

Gold - priority service (UK only)

£7.00 statutory fee for each certificate (unless a short certificate, or under 1 month) +
£25.00 (per item) expedited service charge and special delivery by 9.00am next day = £32.00

For persons who need a certificate urgently. Same working day collection, or next day delivery if application received by 1.00pm. Certificate packages will be tracked by Royal Mail and will need to be signed for at the point of delivery. Packages will be insured against loss in transit. Please note that the £32.00 fee is the same whether certificates are posted out or collected in person.

Silver - premium service

£7.00 statutory fee for each certificate (unless a short certificate, or under 1 month) +
£5.50 recorded delivery, inclusive of insurance (this fee covers up to 4 certificates in a single transaction) = £12.50

This service offers greater peace of mind. Applications will be processed within 3 working days for live certificates and 5 working days for historical certificates. Certificate packages will be tracked by Royal Mail and will need to be signed for at the point of delivery. Packages will be insured against loss in transit up to the value of £34.00.

Bronze - standard service

£7.00 statutory fee for each certificate (unless a short certificate, or under 1 month)

Applications will be processed within 3 working days for live certificates and 5 working days for historical certificates. Certificates sent by 2nd class post. Please note that no liability will be accepted by Shropshire Registration Service for non-delivered items.

(2) Registering a birth

Registration: free of charge

Full certificate: £3.50 each
Additional short certificate: £3.50 each

Please note: a short certificate is issued free of charge at the time of registration.

(3) Registering a death

Registration: free of charge
Certificates at the time of registration: £3.50 each

Please note: there is no 'original' - any copy of the death entry must be paid for.

(4) Getting married at the Shropshire Register Office or in any of the Registration Service ceremony rooms situated in Ludlow, Oswestry, Wem, Bridgnorth and Bishop's Castle

Notice of marriage (fee per person): £30.00

Fee payable on the day of the ceremony (total fee): £40.00

Marriage certificate at time of registration (cost per certificate) £3.50

(5) Getting married at an approved venue in Shropshire

Notice of marriage (fee per person): £30.00

For marriages taking place on Monday to Friday: £250.00
For marriages taking place on a Saturday: £275.00
For marriages taking place on a Sunday or Bank Holiday

(6) Registering a civil partnership at the Shropshire Register Office or in any of the Registration Service ceremony rooms situated in Ludlow, Oswestry, Wem, Bridgnorth and Bishop's Castle

Notice of intention to register a civil partnership (fee per person): £30.00

Total fee payable on date of registration (a ceremony is included if required): £40.00

(7) Registering a civil partnership at an approved venue in Shropshire

Civil Partnership certificate (standard and extract) at time of registration: £3.50 per certificate

(8) Re-affirmation of marriage vows and civil naming ceremonies - including VAT

For a ceremony at the Shropshire Register Office, Shrewsbury or in any of the Registration Service ceremony rooms situated in Ludlow, Oswestry, Wem, Bridgnorth and Bishop's Castle: £130.00

For a ceremony at an approved venue
For ceremonies taking place on Monday to Friday: £155.00
For ceremonies taking place on a Saturday: £175.00
For ceremonies taking place on a Sunday or Bank holiday (excluding Christmas day and Good Friday): £185.00

(9) Private citizenship ceremonies

Please note: if you are participating in a group ceremony organised by the local authority, there is no fee payable.

For a private citizenship ceremony at The Shropshire Register Office, Shrewsbury: £110.00

For a private citizenship ceremony at an approved venue
For citizenship ceremonies taking place on a Monday to Saturday: £220.00
For citizenship ceremonies taking place on a Sunday or Bank holiday (excluding Christmas day and Good Friday): £275.00

(10) Nationality checking service fees

Adult who submits a single application: £40.00
Husband and wife living together who apply at same time (one fee for both): £60.00
Husband and wife and up to four children who apply at the same time (one fee for all): £70.00
Additional children on parents application who apply at the same time as their parents: £15.00 per child
Children under the age of 18 who apply separately from their parents: £15.00 per child

(11) Licensing of approved venues

This licence is to allow for the solemnization of civil marriages, civil partnerships, civil reaffirmation of marriage vows ceremonies and civil naming ceremonies at the approved venue. The licence is valid for 3 years.

New applications for a licence from 1 April 2008
First time application: £1100.00
Application for the renewal of a licence: £1100.00
Addition of extra rooms to an existing licence: £84.00
Licensing an additional building within the curtilage (where a site visit is required the fee will be deducted from that of the new license): £550.00
Site visits: £85.00
Clerical amendments to existing licenses i.e. new responsible person: £20.00
