Elective home education

Most children receive their full time education in state or private schools but a small number of parents prefer to educate their children at home.

Shropshire County Council has a duty to ensure that children are being educated according to the law. Therefore, in order to fulfil this obligation, you must inform your child's school if you choose to de-register your child in order educate them at home. The school will then inform Shropshire County Council.

If a child has previously been registered at a school, parents are required in law to inform the school that they no longer wish the child to be registered at that school.

There are some guidance notes on Elective Home Education which are available either from the Admissions Team or you can download from this webpage.
