Education and learning School meals Free school mealsSchools and some colleges offer free school meals to students up to 19 years old whose parents meet one of qualification criteria.
Many Shropshire schools now use a cashless payment system, which means pupils receiving free school meals can choose to remain completely anonymous.
Parents will qualify for free school meals if they or their partner are receiving:
- Income Support (IS)
- Income Based Job Seeker’s Allowance (IB JSA)
- Child Tax Credit (CTC): provided you do not receive Working Tax Credit and do not have an annual income, as assessed by the Inland Revenue, in excess of £14,155 (from 6 April 2006)
- Guarantee element of State Pension Credit, or:
- A Letter of Support under Part V1 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
