Shropshire Council is mindful of its responsibilities regarding the provision of school uniform and will consider any application for support. In most circumstances parents/carers are able to provide suitable school uniform through local school arrangements. Schools, for example, often have local schemes such as second-hand clothing stalls.
Shropshire Council does not routinely provide clothing grants. However, Shropshire Council will consider requests in exceptional circumstances from parents/carers.
School governing bodies are responsible for deciding whether their school should have a school uniform policy, and if so, what it should consist of.
When setting a school uniform policy, school governing bodies should:
- give high priority to cost considerations
- have a policy that incorporates items that are readily available from a wide variety of retail outlets
- consult parents/carers for their views and concerns before deciding on the introduction of a new uniform policy/dress code, or amending an existing one
Parents/carers should address any queries about school uniform/dress codes with the governing body of their school.
