Shropshire Council delivers Forest School training once in each academic term. The council works with Walford and North Shropshire College to deliver Level 3 Forest School training. This is an accredited Open College Network (OCN) course.
The course consists of a five day taught element (Monday to Friday), with an overnight residential on day five (Friday), where delegates construct a shelter for the night in the woods, light fires to cook their food and perfect skills learned throughout the week. Following this week is a compulsory two day first aid course, specialising in paediatric and outdoor elements.
After the taught week, delegates have an extensive portfolio of evidence to put together before the submission date. This is approximately six months after the course commences.
As part of the course, delegates establish a Forest School site and deliver Forest School sessions with a group. Evidence of at least six sessions must be in the completed portfolio. One of these sessions will be observed by a tutor from the course. Tutorials are available for delegates following the taught week.
The course consists of three modules;
- Learning and Development at Forest School
- Establishment and Delivery of a Forest School Programme
- Forest School Practical Skills and Woodland Management
Courses are delivered in October, March and June. For exact dates or to book onto the course please contact Janet Warburton / Alice Christmas on 01743 254337. There is a charge for this training.
