Shropshire Council delivers Forest School training throughout the academic year. We deliver Level 3 Forest School training which is an accredited Open College Network (OCN) course. In addition to this, we also run Continual Professional Developments (CPD) courses for Forest School.

Forest School Level 3

We run this course in two formats, for upcoming courses please see the current download on this page with dates or e-mail forestschool@shropshire.gov.uk.

1. Block format

The course runs for five consecutive days (Monday to Friday) to begin with and then there is an additional two days at the end of the following week. The initial week is the taught element with theory in the mornings and practical sessions in the afternoons. The following two days are the Practical Skills days where your skills are focussed on and assessed. Following this is a compulsory two day first aid course, specialising in paediatric and outdoor elements which is included in the course cost.

2. Six Week Format

The course runs for six consecutive weeks on a set day (for the 2012 Spring and Summer courses this is a Monday). There is a 7th day (Tuesday of week 6) which is the Practical Skills assessment day. We focus on the theory in the mornings and practical sessions in the afternoons. Following this is a compulsory two day first aid course, specialising in paediatric and outdoor elements which is included in the course cost.

For both formats 1 and 2…

Delegates have an extensive portfolio of evidence to put together before the submission date. This is approximately six months after the course starts.

As part of the course, delegates establish a Forest School site and deliver Forest School sessions with a group. Evidence of at least six sessions must be in the completed portfolio. One of these sessions will be observed by a tutor from the course. Tutorials are available for delegates (date for group tutorial given on the course).

The course consists of three modules;

  • Establishment and Delivery of a Forest School Programme
  • Learning and Development at Forest School
  • Forest School Practical Skills and Woodland Management

For exact dates, or to book onto the course, please contact earlyyearscpd@shropshire.gov.uk or 01743 254319.

There is a charge for this training.
