Is your child in Year 2 at an infant school?
They are due to transfer to junior school in September 2012. You must apply for a school place for your child. If you do not, your child will not receive a school place.
The closing date for applications is 15 January 2012.
This is a national closing date. Applications received after the closing date without exceptional reasons are not considered until all the applications received on time have been allocated. So, it is important that you apply on time to avoid disappointment.
Who you apply to for a school place
If you live in Shropshire Council's administrative area, all applications for school places must be made to Shropshire Council, even if the school you are applying for is outside of Shropshire Council's area. The School Admissions Team will liaise with other local authorities to find out whether or not a place is available. If you do not live in Shropshire you must apply to your local authority. See under 'Related information' for further details.
How you apply, if you live in Shropshire
The online facility is available from 7 September 2011. Go to 'Junior school admissions online application' under 'Related information', alternatively download an application form from this web page.
It is very important that you read The Parents' Guide to Education in Shropshire before applying for a school place. Please see under 'Online services and attachments' for a copy of this document.
Additional information
Under 'Related information' on this webpage there are details about the admissions criteria, which is how school places are allocated. The admissions criteria for junior schools are the same as those for infant and primary schools. An attachment on this page shows how junior school places were allocated in Shropshire schools for the 2011/2011 academic year. Letters advising you which school your child has been allocated will be sent second class on 11 April 2012.
Applicants who live outside the catchment area for a junior school are not guaranteed a place for their child even if they attend a “linked” infant school.
