Every Local Admission Authority is currently required to have a Local Admission Forum (LAF) which must meet at least twice a year. The forum's key role is to ensure a fair system that promotes social equality, does not disadvantage one child compared to another and which is straightforward and easy for parents to understand. The forum acts in an advisory capacity to the council but has no statutory powers.
Under the Schools Admission Code membership must reflect the types of schools in the locality; parents and community representatives; local authority representatives; any other appropriate representatives such as service personnel.
