Shropshire schools are celebrating exceptional results in the latest Key Stage 2 achievement and attainment tables published today (Wednesday 1 April 2009).
The tables show outcomes from tests taken by 11-year-old pupils in English, mathematics and science in 2008.
The county’s results for the percentage of children who achieved the national target of Level 4 or above are:
- English - 84 - up two per cent from 2007
- Mathematics - 80 - up one per cent from 2007
- Science - 90 - up one per cent from 2007
Among those schools that achieved 100 per cent in all three subjects are:
- Hodnet Primary
- Morville CE (Controlled) Primary
Further figures published today, which aim to allow fairer comparisons between schools with different pupil intakes, also show that pupils are making good progress between the ages of seven and 11.
These Contextual Value Added (CVA) scores for Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 highlight that there are no very low performing schools in the county.
Councillor Ann Hartley, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, said: "Once again these are fantastic results and my hearty congratulations go to all staff, children and parents involved.
“We should be proud of our schools, and these excellent results show just how well they are working to educate Shropshire's children."
Shropshire schools which have been consistently successful in ‘adding value’ include:
- Hodnet Primary
- St John's Catholic Primary in Bridgnorth
- Greenfields Primary in Shrewsbury
- Whittington CE (Aided) Primary
- Longmeadow CE (Controlled) Primary in Shrewsbury
Some of the schools that have made a significant improvement in their CVA score since last year are:
- Alveley Primary
- Harlescott Junior
