
Schools for Health and the National Healthy Schools Programme aim to support schools in their work to -
support children and young people in developing healthy behaviours and to:
- raise pupil achievement
- reduce health inequalities
- promote social inclusion.
This work contributes to health improvement priorities for reducing inequalities related to:
- coronary heart disease particularly through: PE and school sport, healthy eating and smoking education in PSHE
- cancers particularly through: smoking and sun safety education in PSHE and through healthy eating
- accidents particularly through health and safety education in all four themes
- mental health particularly emotional health and well-being
- teenage pregnancy particularly through relationships and sex education in PSHE
- drug and alcohol misuse particularly through drug education in PSHE
- safeguarding children particularly through child protection and anti-bullying strategies in PSHE and emotional health and well-being
