Scrutiny

Scrutiny is one way that Shropshire County Council reviews and improves its services.

Scrutiny panels monitor the work of the council and investigating specific issues to make recommendations on the way that services are provided.

We have five scrutiny panels at the county council.

The scrutiny panels are:

  • Children and Young People's Services Scrutiny Panel
  • Community Services Scrutiny Panel
  • Corporate Support Services Scrutiny Panel
  • Economy and Environment Scrutiny Panel
  • Health Overview and Scrutiny

The key roles of the first four panels include:

  • Holding the Cabinet to account for the decisions that they make
  • Scrutinising the quality and performance of services
  • Reviewing county council policy

How we review our services
The 'Focus on better services' leaflet - attached to this page as a pdf document - helps to explain how scrutiny works at the County Council and to identify how people can become involved in the work of scrutiny. It also has a section which allows you to suggest issues which you think should be looked at by the scrutiny panels.
