Exclusion from school can be for a fixed term (lunchtime, a half-day, day or number of days) or permanent. Only the head (or acting head) has the right to exclude a child from school and the parent/carer should be notified immediately.
An exclusion letter should be then be sent to the parent/carer within one school day of the decision to exclude. Information on what this letter should contain is detailed in the 2008 exclusion guidance, which can be accessed by following the link below (sample letters are in part 8).
If you want to talk to someone about your concerns please contact Inclusion Services on 01743 254381.
If the child has been excluded on more than one occasion the school can organise a pupil planning meeting and invite parent/carer to meet at the school with a member of Local Authority Inclusion Services.
