The attached document offers guidance to Local Authority (LA) maintained schools about the use of physical intervention. It establishes basic principles and draws on the legal framework and relevant guidance from the DCSF in the context of practice, which demonstrates that early, progressive and preventive intervention is the norm.
This guidance should be used to inform schools’ own behaviour policies and provide a context for the use of any physical intervention.
Schools and other settings may decide to accept this guidance as their policy on the use of physical intervention or they may write a separate policy relating to this document.
