Shropshire Council

Better regulation and enforcement policy

This enforcement policy provides guidance to officers, businesses, residents and the general public on the range of options that are available to achieve compliance with all legislation enforced by us. The policy was agreed on 25 July 2018.

We have a responsibility for assisting local residents and businesses, at both a local and national level, to comply with their legal responsibilities. We believe that most businesses want to abide by the law and that most residents act responsibly or behave appropriately towards their neighbours, the wider communities in which they live and with the financial assistance available to them through us. We recognise that prevention is better than enforcement, but, that under certain circumstances, formal enforcement action will be necessary against those who flout the law or act irresponsibly.
