How will we work out how much you will pay?

To make sure that all service users are paying the correct charge, a Visiting Officer will contact you to:

• check you are receiving the correct amount of benefits
• help you claim any other benefits that you may be entitled to
• take account of "Disability Related Expenditure". This means any additional costs that you may have as a direct result of your disability
• for each service user, there will be a specific amount of income which we will not take into account. This amount will depend on your circumstances.

Once we have collected all of this information, we will be able to work out your correct charge.

The Visiting Officer will give you a provisional charge at the time of the visit, based on the information you are given.

We will write to you within 7 days of the visit to let you know the final charge.

How exactly will the charge be worked out?

• We will work out the amount of Income Support relevant to you. (We use this figure even if you are not on income support).This calculation is based on your Income Support Applicable Amount. This is:Your level of Income Support (excluding Severe Disability Premium) plus 25%The Department of Health tells us that this amount must not be charged against for home care services, and must be kept by you. Severe disability premium can be charged against. The charge will be assessed against all other relevant income above Income Support plus 25%, including Disability Benefits.
• We will add 25% to that amount of Income Support. This total amount will be protected from Home Care charges.
• Any other income and savings you have above this amount including disability benefits (like Attendance Allowance or Disability Living Allowance care) will then be taken into account when working out your total income.
• Account will be taken of Disability Related Expenditure that you have because of your disability.The charge will then be worked out.

The most we will be allowed to charge you will be:

An hourly rate of £11.12

Up to a maximum of £120.00 per week
