Where can I fish in Shropshire?

These are just a few examples of places the public can go fishing in the area

Available through Shropshire County Council Countryside Service

Angling is available at The Mere at Ellesmere

Day fishing permits can be purchased from the Meres Visitor Centre 01691 622981 (or contact the Countryside Service on 01691 624448)

  • day fishing permits cost £3.00 adults, £1.00 under 16
  • max 2 rods per person
  • no live bait
  • Ellesmere - no keep nets
  • all fish must be returned
  • EA licence must be shown on request

Fishing is from one of six platforms in the Cremorne Gardens including some with wheelchair access

Wheely Boat at The Mere at Ellesmere

  • Available to hire for disabled anglers during normal office hours.
  • The boat has a drop down bow to allow wheelchairs on board.
  • Booking through Countryside Service 01691 624448, 24 hours notice needed
  • cost of boat £5.00 for first hour then £1.00 per person per hour thereafter
  • Day fishing permit £3.00 adults, £1.00 under 16

Please note there is NO fishing at Colemere Countryside Heritage Site. Fishing is leased to a fishing club

Blakemere and adjacent canal

Blakemere and the Canal are closed for fishing at the moment due to overfishing.

Springlea Fishery

  • Tickets are payable on the bank.
