Lantern community building

The Lantern is located on Meadow Farm Drive, Sundorne, Shrewsbury SY1 4NG, Telephone: 01743 210800. The site has spaces reserved for disabled parking.

The Lantern incorporates the following facilites for community use:

• The Independent Living Partnership Ltd (ILP) provides a range of services for both disabled and non-disabled people. Our services range from information, advice, assessment and training and we offer both prevention as well as immediate solutions. Our philosophy, however, is that you are the expert in defining your own needs, we are simply here to help you help yourself. Therefore, ILP services are both flexible and comprehensive. • Blue Eyed Soul Dance Company and DASh, disability arts in Shropshire will be based in this building
• community information is available through the Shropshire Customer First Information Point every day at the centre. Blue Badges (disability parking badges) can also be applied for and issued from this point.
• a community hall with adjacent kitchen. This large space can be partitioned into two smaller spaces and is equipped with staging.
• meeting rooms for use by community groups and projects which are available for hire with or without presentational aids.
• visual Language Interpreting Services (VISS)
• a Community Library incorporating self service and online ICT facilities. The library will include large print books, teenage section, talking books and a childrens section amongst others. Please follow the link on this page for more information about the library at the Lantern.
• a Community Care Library Service for the whole county providing large print books and talking books to care homes around the county
• a range of exercises for health and well being for older people is available. Please contact the centre for further details.
• an IT suite for use by the community
• a café operated by Shire Services. This is open to the public and sells a range of hot and cold snacks and beverages, including Fairtrade products and offering buffets and hospitality services. There is a menu and price list attached to this page
