Draft Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report
As part of the early preparation of Shropshire's new unitary Local Development Framework (LDF), the six existing authorities have prepared a draft Sustainability Appraisal (SA) Scoping Report.

Broadly speaking the SA process seeks to ensure that the principles of sustainable development provide the key driving force for the preparation of all new planning policy documents. In doing so, important social, environmental and economic issues are given appropriate consideration throughout the plan making process.

The SA Scoping Report represents the first important stage in the SA process and identifies a wide range of baseline information and key sustainability issues facing Shropshire. The Report also includes a draft Sustainability Appraisal Framework which will be used to assess future strategic options and policies developed for Shropshire's LDF.

One of the first important documents the Sustainability Appraisal will be used to assess will be the Core Strategy Issues and Alternative Options document later in 2008.
