Shropshire road safety drama tour

A theatre company will be touring schools and colleges across Shropshire this month to perform a play illustrating the consequences of driving under the influence of drugs.

The Walking Forward Theatre Company Ltd. will perform the educational drama “Wasted” in ten schools and colleges from 18 until 29 February.

The production tells the story of three friends who are planning a night out, when their evening takes a tragic turn and they crash their car. This drama goes on to explore the issues of drug driving within the modern youth culture.

The visit has been funded by the Shropshire County Council’s road safety team as part of their developing programme to bring road safety education into schools and colleges.

John Everall, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “The production is aimed at young drivers and their passengers who are statistically more susceptible to driver crashes. Theatre in education is an excellent way to get the message of driver responsibility across as it is both memorable and enjoyable.

“It is hoped that the 1600 or so Shropshire students who see the performance will remember the serious message that the play projects.”

The 50 minute play includes audience participation and interaction between cast members and audience.
