Work to improve the A458 junction near the Gaskell Arms in Much Wenlock will begin next month, on Monday 14 January.
The work, which will include widening the car park access to the Gaskell Arms, kerb realignment, resurfacing of the road and improvements to the pedestrian refuge, is expected to take around four weeks to complete.
These improvements will be carried out under traffic light control, and traffic will only be allowed to travel one way, into town along High Street, so that any disruption or congestion is kept to a minimum.
However, to ensure the safety of the workforce, the road will need to be closed during the resurfacing work on the Smithfield Road junction. This closure is provisionally scheduled for Sunday 10 February. Signed diversions will be in place throughout this.
John Everall, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “This work has been scheduled at this time to ensure as little disruption to local businesses and residents as possible.
“We will make every effort to complete this work as soon as we can.”
