Fitz Bridge will be closed today (Thursday 3 January) from 9.30am until 4.30pm so that it can be repaired.
The bridge carries the unclassified road between the B5067 at Leaton Heath and the B4380 at Montford Bridge over the River Perry. The bridge has been damaged as the result of vehicular impact and stones have been loosened in the northern parapet. This will be repaired during the closure.
The bridge must be closed while the work is being done for safety reasons. It is too narrow to enable the work to be carried out without closing the road.
When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted along the B5067 and the unclassified road through Walford Heath and Grafton.
Access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout.
John Williams, Shropshire County Council’s Principal Bridge Engineer, said: “It is appreciated that the road closure will cause inconvenience, however we hope that people will understand that these repairs are necessary for safety reasons”.
