Cleobury Mortimer town centre enhancement scheme

Shropshire County Council’s work to carry out a major enhancement of Cleobury Mortimer town centre is nearing the half way stage. Work is progressing well and is expected to be finished in mid November 2008.

The works include the reconstruction of footways, a zebra crossing and bus layby. Top quality materials such as Yorkstone paving, granite kerbs, diamond cut blue bricks and cast iron street furniture are being used to compliment the conservation area.

This is a £450,000 scheme of which £265,000 is being grant funded by Advantage West Midlands.

John Everall, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “I am delighted so far with the work which has already been completed. These improvements work well to compliment the town and I hope that they will help contribute to a place where people will want to live, work and visit.”

The work is taking place between the junctions of Lion Lane and Tenbury Road, and for the safety of the workforce, traffic is being controlled by temporary traffic lights with a signed alternative route.

This scheme is being carried out by the council together with its consultants Mouchel and contractors Alun Griffiths.

Major Adrian Coles, Shropshire County Councillor for Clee, said: “The works have been progressing well and are on schedule. There has been some disruption which is inevitable on a project of this nature. But we are all focussed on the finished job and this will have an enormous benefit to residents, traders and the wider community surrounding Cleobury Mortimer.”
