Community transport on the agenda at local meeting

Residents will be able to have their say about community transport in north Shropshire when the next meeting of Action: Whitchurch and Prees local joint committee is held on Wednesday 11 June. The meeting will be held at Whitchurch Civic Hall starting at 7.00pm, and all local residents in the area are invited to attend.

There will also be a chance for people to suggest how the committee should spend it budget of £40,000 over the next year, to help improve the area.

The meeting will again be combined with the Tilstock PACT (Partners and Communities Together) meeting, giving people the chance to meet officers from their local policing team and have their say on how the area is policed.

Action: Whitchurch and Prees meets four times a year and this will be the fifth meeting since the committee was set up in May 2007.

Tom Biggins, Shropshire County Councillor for Whitchurch, said: “I have been pleased to see so many local people at our meetings so far. We have discussed a number of important local issues, and agreed to help fund a number of important projects which will help to benefit the local community.”

Gerald Dakin, Shropshire County Councillor for Prees, said: “Action: Whitchurch and Prees really is making a big difference to this area, but we are really keen for people to come to our meeting in June to tell us about the issues that matter to them, and to have their say about how the area could be improved.”

Action: Whitchurch and Prees has a committee of county, district, town and parish councillors drawn from the area.

The last meeting, held on 26 March, discussed access to Whitchurch Railway Station for people with disabilities, and the Whitchurch and Prees Youth Opportunity Fund. Bids for funding from the fund are now being invited.
