Press release - 2 August 2007
Shropshire County Council has put forward proposals to repair Hampton Loade Lane, following the damage caused by the recent severe weather.
These much needed repairs were discussed yesterday (Wednesday 1 August) in a meeting between Shropshire County Council, their contractors Accord PLC, Leader of Bridgnorth District Council and representatives of Chelmarsh Parish Council.
At the meeting the county council presented an alternative option to traditional road construction. This option was resurface the road with an open drainage channel along one side to control the flow of future storm water.
This would not only reduce the cost of the repairs but would also reduce the closure period required. The other advantage to this method of drainage is that it would virtually be maintenance free.
This proposal was agreed by all parties. A further meeting will be held on Wednesday 8 August in the Unicorn Inn, Hampton Loade to present and discuss this with local residents and businesses.
Brian Bennett, Shropshire County Council’s assistant divisional surveyor, said: “The main focus of this new proposal is to keep disruption to local residents and business to a minimum, as well as maintaining access for emergency services whilst the repair work is carried out.
“By creating this new channel we hope that damage by storm water in the future is kept to an absolute minimum.”
