Nursing home employee and dedicated fund-raiser Sharon Brookes is preparing herself for her next sponsored walk on 14 June 2008 in aid of Cancer Research and the flood victims of Ludlow and Tenbury.

Sharon will be walking a total of 12 miles from Cleobury Mortimer to the Four Rivers Nursing Home in Ludlow which is operated by Shropshire County Council.

Sharon, an avid fundraiser, has raised over £30,000 over the last 28 years for local and national charities. She began doing her walks after recovering from a life threatening diabetic coma back in 1971, when the dedication of hospital staff gave Sharon the inspiration to help others.

Councillor Barbara Craig, Cabinet member for community services said: “This is an excellent achievement by Sharon. I commend her for her astounding efforts in raising this amount of money. There are many people who will have benefited from Sharon's dedicated fundraising and I am sure her local community are very proud of her.”

Sharon’s loyal companions on her walks are her red Doc Martin boots. “I’ve had these for years,” said Sharon, “I call them my magic boots, as I’ve never had a blister in them. This year folks have been really generous and I would like to thank everyone who has supported me.”

Sharon would like to raise over £1,500 and has so far raised over £1,200. If you would like to make a donation please contact Sharon at the Four Rivers Nursing Home on 01584 813500.
