Remembrance Day commemoration at county council

Shropshire County Council staff and councillors will gather in the centre quadrangle at Shirehall, Shrewsbury at 11.00am this Friday (9 November) to remember those who lost their lives in the service of their country.

In particular they will be commemorating members of Council staff who died during the two World Wars. Brian Gillow, Chairman, will lay a wreath on the memorial stones which commemorate them.

The Last Post will be played by bugler Mike Higgins, who works in the council's Resources Directorate. After the two minutes silence, prayers of remembrance will be led by Reverend Christopher Orme, Curate of Shrewsbury Abbey. The Act of Homage will be read by the Chairman.

All councillors and staff have been invited to attend the commemoration, or to observe two minutes silence at their workplace. The Chairman will also be joined by a number of guests, including the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Edmund Thewles, and the County Secretary of The Royal British Legion. Peter Westwell.
