Councillors have voted to defer a decision on the new Shropshire Council logo until their next meeting on 10 September.
The Implementation Executive (IE), which is the group of councillors from all six Shropshire councils overseeing the move to the new unitary council, requested more time to consider the options and the feedback before making their final decision.
There are seven shortlisted designs, some put together by Shropshire students and some by the county council’s in-house design team, who were working to a specific brief to use the current county shield. This was to ensure a wide selection of designs, some completely new and some building on the traditional coat of arms.
Members of the IE considered a report today which gave details about each design. They decided to delay choosing a logo to allow more discussions to take place.
Councillors Miles Kenny and Dewi Davies, member champions for communications, said: “Selecting the logo and branding is a key step in defining the identity of Shropshire Council. It is important to provide the new council with a fresh identity delivering a strong sense of place and strengthening the public’s understanding, trust and support.”
Chairman of the IE, Councillor Malcolm Pate, said: “Choosing a new logo for the new council is an important job, and we felt it was a good idea to take our time to fully consider the options. Some of the responses to the consultation had only just arrived and we really wanted to make sure we listened to everybody’s views before making a decision.”
