Press release - 27 July 2007
Volunteers are invited to come along and try their hand at dry stone walling at Grinshill from 1 August, between 10.30am and 3.30pm.
The project is run by the Clive and Grinshill Conservation Group and supported by Shropshire County Council’s Conservation and Ranger Team, who are inviting anyone to come and try their hand at the traditional skill to help to restore part of Grinshill’s historic wall.
Volunteers can come along on any, or all, of the following days - 1st, 2nd 4th, 9th, 10th and 11th August.
Instructor Colin Slater from the Dry Stone Walling Association, will be on hand to provide expert tuition for those interested in learning this traditional skill so no previous experience is needed.
Chair of the Clive and Grinshill Conservation Group, Alisdair McKenzie, said: “The Group has received Local Heritage Initiative funding to carry out a number of exciting projects on and around the hill. These sessions will be a wonderful opportunity for people to gain experience in a traditional method of building which will also help to restore part of the site’s heritage.
"Learning a traditional craft like this will also help to preserve skills which can then be passed on to future generations.”
To book a place and for further information on where to meet and what to bring, contact Shropshire County Council’s Conservation and Ranger Team on 01691 624448.
