Recommendations on school amalgamations and mergers

Monday (12 May) sees the long-awaited publication of reports to Shropshire County Council’s cabinet on the initial formative consultations on amalgamation and merger of 16 primary schools.

Cabinet is due to meet on Monday 19 May to consider the recommendations and decide whether any or all of these proposals move to the formal consultation stage.

Officers and cabinet members have undertaken extensive consultation with visits to every school affected by these proposals. There have also been numerous meetings arranged at the request of local interest groups to discuss the implications of the proposals and to register their views.

Cabinet will be debating each proposal individually at their meeting on 19 May with members of the public being allowed to table a question or statement. These questions or statements must be submitted to Geraldine Childerhouse at Shirehall by 5.00pm on Tuesday 13 May. Each question and statement plus the Council’s response will be tabled on 19 May, and, anyone submitting a question will be able to ask a supplementary question on the day.

All the reports, details of public participation, definitions of school types and a guide to when particular proposals are likely to be discussed by Cabinet during the day can be found on this website.
