Sundorne residents get chance to have their say

Residents of Sundorne in Shrewsbury can once again have their say about issues important to them, at the annual “Let’s Talk” meeting being run by their local councils on Wednesday 26 September at The Lantern in Meadow Farm Drive starting at 7.00pm.

Young people are also being invited to give their view at a youth event being held at the same venue between 5.30pm and 6.30pm, prior to the start of “Let’s Talk”. Last year over 20 young people came along and had their say.

People of all ages and backgrounds are invited to the “Let’s Talk” meeting, at which local councillors from Shropshire County Council and Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council will listen to comments and concerns raised by local people, and answer their questions.

People will be able to raise any issue, and it is expected that discussions may cover subjects including parking and traffic speed, facilities for young people, litter and anti-social behaviour.

Comments can be made during a question and answer session, as well as in workshop groups, and the issues raised at the meeting will then help to shape planning at each of the councils.

Joyce Allaway, Shropshire County Councillor for Sundorne, said: “The annual Let’s Talk meeting offers local people a unique opportunity to meet councillors from all of their local councils, and all at the same time. And it provides councillors with a great opportunity to find out about the issues of interest and concern to local people.”

Danny Moore, Malcolm Price and Paul Lord, Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Councillors for Sundorne, Battlefield and Heathgates respectively, added: “Almost 60 people attended the 2006 Let’s Talk meeting, and we hope to attract an even greater number this year. We particularly hope that more young people will attend this time, as we are especially keen to hear about the issues that matter to them and are looking forward to the dedicated youth event.”

The “Let’s Talk” meeting will begin with a brief report on what has been done over the past 12 months in response to issues raised last year. Everyone attending will be given feedback afterwards, telling them what the councils have done as a result of the meeting.

This is one of a series of 27 “Let’s Talk” meetings being held across Shropshire before the end of October. Entry to each meeting is free and refreshments will be provided.
