Excellent performance of Shropshire schools

This month's meeting of Shropshire County Council's Children & Young People's Services Scrutiny Panel will focus on the theme of ‘enjoy and achieve’, with a particular emphasis on the excellent performance of Shropshire schools. One of the reports being considered at the meeting on Wednesday 21 November will highlight the continued low level of exclusions in Shropshire schools during the last academic year.

The number of permanent exclusions for the academic year 2006/07 was only 20 - an increase of two on the previous year, but still a very low rate compared with the national standards.

Roger Evans, Chairman of the scrutiny panel, said: “I am very pleased to see that the number of children that were permanently excluded is still excellent compared with national standards. It is a testament to the hard work done by our schools and a number of partners in helping children in need of support. The results of this effective working can be clearly seen.”

The panel will also hear about the excellent attendance level in both primary and secondary school attendance, which are above the national averages.
