Shropshire’s primary school children will be able to enjoy Christmas lunch at school next week.
The special Christmas menu will be served at primary schools across the county and offers roast turkey, chipolatas, stuffing balls and gravy, served with roast and creamed potatoes, fresh carrots, peas and sprouts. A vegetarian option of parsnip and cranberry crumble will also be available.
A selection of puddings will also be on offer, including Jingle Jelly, Festive Pudding and custard, Christmas tree cookies and Frosty the Snowman ice cream.
Ann Hirst, Primary schools catering manager with Shropshire County Council, said: “For us, Christmas is the best time of year. School meals uptake is around 90 per cent across the county and there is a great atmosphere in school dining rooms.
“It’s great to see schools getting into the Christmas spirit by offering this tasty menu, which we hope will encourage children to eat hot meals at school for the rest of the school year.”
The day on which the menu is to be served is being chosen by each individual primary school, and parents should contact their school for more information.
