People living in the Bridgnorth area will be able to say how they think the area could be improved when the new ‘Action: Bridgnorth and Morfe’ local joint committee meets for the first time on Tuesday 10 June. The meeting, which starts at 7.00pm, is being held in the annexe to the right of College House on St Leonard’s Close, Bridgnorth, and all local people are invited to attend.
The main item on the agenda will be road safety and improved traffic management in the area.
Action: Bridgnorth and Morfe is a pilot series of meetings to be held four times over the next year. Each meeting will give people in the area a chance to meet with local councillors, and get involved in decisions affecting their community.
The committee has a budget of £70,000 that can be spent on local issues, and people attending each meeting will be able to help decide what the money is spent on.
Margaret Winckler, Shropshire County Councillor for Morfe, said: ”This new committee offers local people a fantastic opportunity to speak out about the issues that matter to them, and to tell us how we should spend our budget to benefit the local community. It is an exciting new development for this area, and I hope as many people as possible will join us at our first meeting, and at future meetings.”
John Hurst-Knight, Shropshire County Councillor for Bridgnorth West, said: “Following the success of several similar committees that have been meeting across Shropshire for the past year, I’m delighted that people in the Bridgnorth area will also now get the same opportunity to tell their councillors about the issues that matter to them, and to have their say about how the area could be improved.“
Action: Bridgnorth and Morfe covers the electoral divisions of Bridgnorth East, Bridgnorth West, Bridgnorth Rural and Morfe, which include the following villages and parishes: Bridgnorth Town; Eardington; Quatt Malvern; Alveley and Romsley; Chelmarsh; Billingsley, Deuxhill, Glazeley and Middleton Scriven; Chetton; Worfield and Rudge; Badger; Beckbury; Claverley; Kemberton; Ryton and Grindle; Stockton, and Sutton Maddock.
The committee includes local councillors from Shropshire County Council, Bridgnorth District Council and local parish and town councils.
It is one of 11 local joint committees that will be meeting across Shropshire over the next 12 months. Five have already been meeting for the past year, and a further six are meeting for the first time this May and June.
