Press release - 14 September 2007
Shropshire County Council is counting down to their launch of a national campaign to make children more aware of the journey of their food from farm to plate.
The two day ‘Year of Food and Farming’ launch will take place in Shrewsbury Town Square on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 September.
All Shropshire schools have been invited to attend the first day of the launch, whilst the second day is for members of the public to get involved.
This fun-packed launch will include an interactive food festival enabling children to find out about the food chain, a food market crammed with local products, butter churning and bread making, and a chance to handle chicks and lambs.
John Everall, Cabinet member for sustainability, said: “It is extremely important that we encourage children to reconnect with the way in which their food is grown and prepared so that they understand the benefits of a healthy and balanced diet.
“We hope that as many people as possible get involved in this fun event.”
