Alan Neill, a teacher at Ludlow Secondary School in South Shropshire, has won the prestigious Dyson Design and Technology Teacher of the Year award.

The awards are presented by The Design and Technology Association to celebrate those who have contributed to Design and Technology and supported learning.

At their ceremony last week, Alan’s citation read; “Alan Neill has won the award for being an outstanding leader of Design and Technology at Ludlow School and a consistent driving force behind a high achieving department. An excellent teacher, with superb subject knowledge and a clear vision for the subject.

"Alan’s focus has always been on developing his pupils’ designing and making skills as well as their enjoyment and passion for Design and Technology. A talented designer/craftsman himself, Alan has passed on many of his skills to generations of pupils in the local community.

"Alan embraces the contribution of all specialist areas within Design and Technology, and has developed and led a superb team of experienced and hardworking staff who share his vision for the subject.”

Ann Hartley, Cabinet member for children’s services said: “This is a credit to Shropshire that Alan Neill's excellent teaching has been recognised with this high-profile award.
