Museum on the Move at Abbots Wood

Museum on the Move will be visiting Abbots Wood in Shrewsbury on Friday 28 March.

Hosting a new Climate Change exhibition and a Gambian Exchange Project, the new state of the art vehicle will be located at Abbots Wood car park on Eskdale Road between 10.00am to 1.00pm.

Abbots Wood offers a community based day service for adults with learning disabilities. The centre which has plenty of parking, also boasts a café, IT suite, physiotherapy suite and meeting rooms all available for use by the community.

The Climate Change exhibition is an interactive multi sensory exhibition that looks at climate change in the past, present and future.

The Gambian Exchange Project links Shropshire County Council Museum Service with Tanje Village Museum in The Gambia. Staff from both sites will work together in The Gambia and at Acton Scott Historic Working Farm, sharing curatorial experience, developing a joint environmental education programme that links children in Shropshire with children in The Gambia and exchanging evidence of rural skills and craftsmanship.

Councillor Barbara Craig, Cabinet member for community services said: “Abbots Wood is a superb community centre offering many facilities for service users and the wider community, Museum on the Move is yet another great example how we can provide access to museums’ services for a variety of audiences.”

Lila Williams, Locality Organiser at Abbots Wood said: “Many of our service users are familiar with the Museum on the Move and really enjoy the hands on and interactive facilities on the bus. This is a superb facility which really enhances their experiences and learning. Everyone has shown a great deal of excitement for the return of Museum, and at a recent meeting with our advocacy group Taking Part, many of our clients said they were really looking forward to it.”

The Climate Change exhibition will be visiting Shropshire from 11 to February to 2 May and then from 12 August to 10 October.
