Shropshire County Council’s school meals service could be named best education caterer in the country at a prestigious awards ceremony in London this Thursday (27 March).

The service is one of three finalists in the running for the ‘education award’ at the Cost Sector Catering Awards 2008. The award recognises ‘excellence in the provision of foodservice for schools in both private and state sectors’.

The other finalists are Nottingham City Council and Thames Valley University.

Ann Hartley, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services, said: “Being named as one of just three finalists for this prestigious award is a fantastic achievement for our school meals team, and is deserved recognition for all the wonderful work they do to provide our children with a healthy, nutritious meal every day, and to promote the importance of healthy eating.”

Members of the council’s school meals service will attend Thursday’s ceremony, which takes place at Hilton's London Metropole, and will be attended by the around 800 of the catering industry's most influential people.

The annual Cost Sector Catering Awards recognise those who have made an outstanding contribution to the catering industry.

The education award is sponsored by McCain Foods.
