Mountfields in Shrewsbury residents' parking scheme

Residents in the Mountfields area of Shrewsbury will be asked for their views on a residents' parking scheme, in a letter being sent out by Shropshire County Council this week.

In September 2007 the county council agreed that Mountfields would be a pilot area for a residents' parking scheme.

A number of meetings and surveys have been carried out and a proposed scheme, in line with the county policy, has now been developed.

During the next few days a letter will be delivered to the residents of Mountfields and some of the surrounding streets providing details of the proposed scheme, and asking people whether they want it to go ahead.

In order for the scheme to proceed, 30 per cent of the residents need to respond to the consultation, and 70 per cent need to be in favour of the scheme.

Subject to this and future consultations, the scheme will restrict parking in the Mountfields area to two hours between 8.00am and 10.00pm seven days a week, except for permit holders.

Residents will be able to buy one permit per property, but will also be able to buy visitors permits.

The roads within Mountfields will be marked with either double yellow lines or parking bays.

Councillor John Everall, Shropshire County Council cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “We understand residents are concerned about parking, and this will give them a chance to have their say on these proposals. It is ultimately down to the residents themselves whether we go ahead with this pilot scheme or not.”
