Pupils from Ellesmere Primary School are now enjoying a safer route to their school by making the most of a new Puffin crossing, recently installed by Shropshire County Council.
The crossing, located near the school on Elson Road, has been provided as part of the County Council’s Safer Routes to School programme following concerns raised by parents and pupils about crossing this busy road.
The crossing has been installed in a number of phases. The majority of the work is now complete and the new crossing can be used by schoolpupils and residents. However, there will be a few final surfacing and building works which will be completed during November.
The work has been carried out by the council’s contractors, JDM Accord and supervised by their consultants, Mouchel Parkman.
John Everall, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for environment and sustainability, who officially opened the crossing last Friday (2 November), said: “We are very grateful to the local community for putting up with some disruption over the last few months. We are now looking forward to working with the school and wider community to support their initiatives to encourage more walking for local journeys.”
The school adopted a School Travel Plan in 2004.
