Residents living in the Ludlow area will soon have another opportunity to get involved in decisions affecting their community, at the third meeting of Action: Ludlow & Ludlow Rural. The meeting will be held on Tuesday 15 January at The Refectory, Harley Centre, Ludlow College, starting at 7.00 pm.

Action: Ludlow & Ludlow Rural is part of a series of local meeting pilots, which give local people the opportunity to raise issues of importance with their local councillors.

Public transport in the Ludlow area, and the implementation of Shropshire County Council’s new rural transport scheme in 2008, will be on the agenda, along with the county council’s 2008/2009 budget consultation, using the active voting system.

Peter Corston, Shropshire County Councillor for Ludlow, said: “These meetings have allowed local parishes to get involved in local decision-making and to have a real influence, and are an excellent way for local people to get involved in decisions about their local community.”

Viv Parry, Shropshire County Councillor for Ludlow Rural, said: “Action: Ludlow & Ludlow Rural has provided a great opportunity to discuss some important local issues with local people. I look forward to welcoming people to our next meeting, when they will be able to talk to local councillors and put forward their ideas.”

The Action: Ludlow & Ludlow Rural meetings have a committee of county, district, town and parish councillors drawn from the area, and a small budget which the committee allocates in response to issues raised by members of the public.

Over 30 people attended the most recent meeting held at the Harley Centre, Ludlow College on 13 September.

Issues discussed at the meeting included waste management, parking, transport and safer routes to school.
